I am looking to buy 1G of SD but confuse about speed. I don't plan to use this camera as a camcorder and don't plan to shoot too many burst mode. What is a good speed for the FZ-20. How do find out the spped on the card if it is not printed any where. I saw a Lexax card on sale but don't know if I should buy it or not since I don't know the speed. I ask around and no one in the store seem to know. Is Kingmax a better choice or Sandisk? I would like to buy Panasonic but it is too expensive.

The only 1Mb card Lexar makes according to their site is 32X or 4.8Mb/sec sustained minimum write speed. That is probably fast enough. Steve recommends the Sandisk Ultra II at 9Mb/sec. Sandisk also makes an Extreme card that is the same speed. 4.8Mb/sec is pretty fast but I don't really know whether there is any mode it will slow in the FZ20. I have one in my FZ10 and it performs to specs in everything.

I am very impressed with my Transcend 512 MB card. It is extremely fast and responsive.

Well the Infinite continuous mode on the FZ20 is about 2 fps. At maximum image quality and 5 Megapixels, you're looking at about a 2.5MB .jpg per picture, so a regular 4.8MB/s card won't give you full 2fps but it won't be too far off.
You're not going to notice a difference if you're not in a continuous mode unless you're shooting .tiff. The movie mode shouldn't be a problem at all with a slow card. |
