Hi guys,

Anyone knows what is the difference between SD and MMC cards? :?

I am willing to buy the Cannon A620. Any opinions which memory card best to use?

SD or MMC? :?

What brand? :?

It used to be easier to answer that question but the lines have become fairly blurred these days. Best to check the manufacturer's specs to see if the camera can use either one or only one of those two cards. Physically they are almost identical but there are some contact pin differences and internal electronics differences. It used to be that SD was larger and faster but not anymore, now we have 100x and faster 2GB MMC cards as well as SD cards.

The Canon A620 can use either SD or MMC, in fact Canon supplies a 32MB MMC card with the camera so I'd say buy the best deal you can find for the capacity that you want. I would stay with known brand names though, there are a lot of clone cards on eBay these days and God only knows where they have come from. SanDisk, Lexar, ATP, Kingston, Delkin - all good names.

MMC means Multi Media Card, The letter S in SD means Secure, this means you can lock it both in hardware ( with a small switch on the card) or via software. The extra pin or pins is for locking the files (read only) via the software.

You have to check the specific equipment for compatibility ( and backwards compatibility)
