This is avialable at Olympus site. goto support, than FAQs, select dig cams than your model. click on the upgrade question. even gives you a form to mail in with your $69.95 and camera.
Hope this helps, Gary |

Thanks for all the info. I will ask them about the cards to make sure. I don't think I will get the camera upgraded as I may get a new one in a year or two and it will be a lot better than this one (as they get better and better quality all the time).
I did find someplace that was selling out of the 8meg cards, and so I picked up a few quite cheap. Though, as one can't have too many cards I will contact olympus to see what they say about backwards compatible cards. Thanks again -DB |

Yes "generic" cards work just fine. I know I got some and it works. As steve said the cards are only chips so they don't care how the data is stored. Though all cameras adhere to the standard format as far as I know.
This is why "card readers" you plug into say into your USB port and they read the card ok is because they are saving in the same format. It appears the only "hicup" is that cameras are controling the reading and writing totally they are often set to only use up to a certain size card. In the case of my camera 8meg is the limit. You try to put in a 16 or 32 and it won't be able to read it. But as I said any brand of card works fine, just make sure you don't go over your cameras meg limit. -DB |
