I have a 128mb smartmedia card that I use in my fujifilm finepix 2800. Its allways worked fine untill a few days ago, I turned on my camera and it says "card not initialized". I put the card in my USB card reader, and it works fine. I formated it and even ran scan disk on it with no problems. I have a different smartmedia card that I tried in my camera, it works fine, so I know the camera is not the problem. What could be going on?

Have you formatted the card in the camera itself?

If you have just formatted it on your PC, it will need to be done again in the camera to initialise the card's directory stucture for storing the photos.

People keep telling me I need to do that...but as far as I can tell there is no format option in the camera. :roll:

I am sure that you've got a format option on there somewhere. It will probably be in one of the menus when you are in playback mode.

I have an older FinePix 2400 so it may be different, but when I am in playback mode, I just press the menu button and format is right there, at the top of the erase menu.

I had this same problem, and ended up sending it back to Olympus for replacement/repair. See this thread for other possible solutions.
