Default Smartmedia speed

Just how fast is Smartmedia speed? I'm considering buying a Large CF card for my Fuji S602Z but I want to have the read/write speed like Smartmedia to record movies smoothly.

Default Speed

The articels that I have read, indicate that there is no significant speed difference in Smart media and Compact Flash.

since the controller portion is part of the camera the speed is determined by the camera itself.

cf cards are controller/memory in one package. they are able to evolve to faster rates. but again your cameras processor and bus have a definitive effect on xfr rate.
i can put a cf card in one camera time the thruput swap to another and it will be different. put it on a usb reader one speed a firewire reader another.
too many variables. but baseline a good quality cf card has the capability of superior raw rates to a sm card.

D7i RAW image transfer
ridata 512MB 9.5 seconds
sandisk utra 256MB 16seconds
same image

just for reference:

there is a difference in cf cards

You nay buy whatever Smartmedia card you wish to buy, be it branded or generic, as the speed is not dependent on the card itself, and more or less the performance of the cards will be the same.
I am talking about the SmartMedia only and not the CF cards.
