Greetings everyone.

I want to purchase a Seagate ST1 model ST625211CF 2.5GB microdrive. Plenty of the 5GB models at places like eBay, but I need a 2.5GB.

I will consider obtaining a device that has the needed microdrive on board and then cannibalize.

Details: I have am MP3 player that uses the Seagate ST1 2.5GB microdrive. I dropped the MP3 player and damaged the microdrive. Could not get another 2.5GB ST1, so tried a 5GB model. Unfortunately, the MP3 player would not work. I assume the manufacturer made the firmware such that ONLY the 2.5GB drive would be recognized.

Alternatively, if someone knows a way or trick to upgrade from 2.5GB to 5GB then I will try it. Again, plenty of 5GB ST1 drives around, but having a hard time finding the 2.5GB version.

Why bother with a microdrive?

I bought one a few years ago and it packed up after 12 months usage.

Go out and get yourself a big compact flash or whatever your device uses.
