I have an Olympus D-575 camera and it came with an olympus XD 16MB memory card, and I want to get a larger one. I have seen a variety of XD cards, made by Kodak and Fujufilm, and then by Olympus. Do I have to get an Olympus XD card for my camera or can I get another card and use the format card button on the camera. I am wondering because the Kodak one seems to be cheaper or some stores don't have an Olympus XD card. So does the brand of XD card make a difference? And how so? Will the performance be better with an Olympus XD card? Any other advice would be appreciated too. Thanks,
Alyssa |

I have Olympus and Fuji cards, and they both say "Korea" and "By Samsung" on the back, so that should tell you something. I'd be willing to bet that it says the same thing on the Kodak xD cards.
I'm not sure about the new 'M' series cards (1 GB), since I have yet to use one. I'm also not sure if your camera's panorama function would work with a non-Olympus card. However, you can always use software to stitch pictures together if you like pano's. the Hun |

NO...my acquired Kodak is made by Toshiba in Japan I brought it, for my newer Fuji S9500 camera 256mb capacity.
However the 16mb that came with the camera is an a originally Fuji one made by Samsung in Korea. Alex 007:

Make sure that whenever buying memory cards that you get the ones that have a higher transfer rate, causes less image loss.

Hello Katty!
Happens that with xD type cards, EXIST...only one speed, not as SD or CF that you can select which ones is more suitable for your needs, or CAN work safely with your presently digital camera! Whatever; thank you so much for your advice ![]() Cheers, Alex 007 |

I believe the XD M cards are slower and not suitable for recording video.

In my camera the "M" cards are specifically FOR video. Compared to the original card that came with the camera (Pany FZ-10) they seem as fast or faster with images. Hmmm.

Hi Charlie!
I never will make "Movie"..with my lovely Fuji S-9500...so the regularly xD card is fine with me, I obtain here in Israel a "Kodak" branded 256 mb made by Toshiba in Japan. Do the job well ![]() Cheers, Alex 007:

The M card might beslightly slower but when questioning Fuji about VGA 30fps compatibility they said itwill work fine in the S9000 for movies.
