Default toshiba 15 GB Type II PC Card

Just got an email from Mobile Planet advertising a 15 GB Type II pc card. This is great news for photographers with the older Kodak DCS cameras. I have two of the 2GB cards and get about 800 shots on one card. Taking an educated SWAG, I'm thinking about say, 6,000 photos on one of these cards.

Oh yea, the PC card lists for $499. 8)

Don't you mean a 1.5GB (one point five) Gb card?

That sounds like a good concept, but I'd really be afraid it would break or I'd loose it (its so small.)

That would mean the loss of a valuable item... and also all those pictures. 15G would be a lot of pictures to lose!

It's a PC type II and not a CF form factor (ie at least twice as big). This device only fits older Kodak DCS camera...or laptops, but no PDAs. The microdrive is max. out @ 1G at this time until Hitachi release their next crops... Hopefully below the $500 price point, but then you'll need FAT-32 like the 10D to be able to use it; otherwise you'll be stuck with just 2G!

BTW the microdrive is now only $189, my last Lexar 1G 32x is still $259:

Default CF - PC Card Confusion

My Mistake, I thought it was a type II CF card.

This looks liek a good idea, for Ipaq users, who have the older PC card slot. Anyone know for sure if the ipaq can use these?

I think the microdrive market is about to be swamped by the CF market.
Can buy 2 x 512Mb Fuji Ultra (20x) cards now, for less than the price of a microdrive (here in UK anyway)

Default PC card works in iPAQ

I have been using a toshiba 2Gb PC Card drive in my iPAQ 3870 for about 1 year now without any problems. I don't know specifically about the new 15Gb PC Card, but so long as they have a Pocket PC driver, I don't see why it would not work.

BTW, I use the original PC Card expansion pack made by Compaq with the iPAQ. It has its own internal rechargeable battery. They make better PC Card expansion pack with removeable batteries.

The only problem is does the Kodak DCS camera have the file structure to access all of that drive? It probably requires FAT-32 and I don't think the older DCS cameras will recognize it. They use FAT-16 which is good to 2GB capacity only.
