Default SM Card - some corrupted files

for the first time in 2 years I have a problem with one of my cards. Having filled the card at an airshow with 74 pics (64Mb) my card reader will not transfer all the files, in fact it will transfer only 5 of them ! I get an error message saying that the file is corrupt for the rest of them. The files are still there, I can see them in Windows Explorer, but just can't transfer them. In preview mode on the camera (oly C-2100), again they are all there, but the faulty ones just come up with the blue screen saying "card error"
Any pointers appreciated.

Don't write anything else to the card and use Image rescue software. Look here:

After extracting, re-format the card in the camera, or if you have it run SMPREP.exe on a Dazzle reader to low level format and 're-calibrate' the cards bad block count. You may think you can see the files because you can read the filename and size - but that's coming from a table. Chances are you can recover most or all so give the recovery utilities a try.

I second voxmagna's suggestion to format the card using SMPREP! Just as floppy disks can have bad sectors, SmartMedia cards can have bad CIS blocks. The format utility in your camera is like DOS's old "Quick" format-- it really doesn't perform a low-level format, checking for and fixing any errors that it finds. The SMPREP.EXE utility that comes with Dazzle and other brands of card readers made by SCM Microsystems Inc. has successfully repaired all card errors I have found so far on SmartMedia cards. Get the pics off first, and then perform a low-level format on the card you had problems with.

I'd still think of running smprep. If you've got bad blocks and they're not marked, you'll probably hit the problem again.

If you're cam runs movie mode, fill the card and check replay for errors. VOX
