Nevermind...
I (think I) found the answer after alot of digging around.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I found out that the Canon 350D write speed is around 6.0 - 6.2 MB/s
If that is correct then a 40x compact flash card sould be the sweet spot, as a 40x speed = 6.0 MB/s

I was watching your topic because I have been wondering the same thing as your original question. I have the XT and I just bought the XTi and have quite a few sandisk Ultra II cards. I have been searching for the write speed of the XTi to see if the cards I have will be able to keep up with it or if I would need to invest in even more CF cards like the Extreme III or IV.

So, are the Ultra II's fast enough to keep up withthe larger MP of the XTi?

Your Sandisk Ultra II cards should be fine, IF what I gathered is correct.
This is what I found out:

Here is a link to a review that tested how fast the Canon 400D (Rebel XTi) writes data to Compact Flash cards.
http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/mul...?cid=6007-7699

As you can see, the fasted write times are just above 6MB/s for RAW images and just under 5MB/s for JPG images.
Your Ultra II cards are pretty high on that chart (higher = faster).

Rob has not tested cards in an EOS-400D (Rebel XTi) yet. That link is for tests with a EOS-350D (Rebel XT).

Chances are, the performance of a given card would be very similar in the XTi, though.

Thanks for the update. I didnt want to spend more money on cards if I didnt need to.

At the same time, I didnt want to hinder the performance of the XTi by using a card too slow for the camera's potental.
