Compact flash typeI is 43mm (1.7") x 36mm (1.4") x 3.3mm (0.13") while typeII is 43mm (1.7") x 36mm (1.4") x 5mm (0.19"). The only difference between the two is typeII is ever so slightly thicker than typeI. A typeI card will fit into a typeII slot but a typeII card will not fit into a type slot. The extra thickness can be needed or required for higher capacity compact flash devices like larger cards usually 1gb or higher or the Microdrives. Everything else about the specs for the two types are the same. Check out http://www.compactflash.org/ for more information.
