I have this CF card 133 speed that I've used with my new 40D. When I power the camera on it says the CF card needs to be formatted before the camera will operate. I just shut it off, take the card out, put it back, turn the camera back on and everything works. But, there's got to be something to overcome this, I hope!! Thanks for any help.

Did you do the obvious (format the card)? ;-)

You'll find a format menu choice in your camera's setup menu.

I do this every single time I resuse a card (format it using the camera's menu choice for format). That way, I always start out with a fresh File Allocation Table, just the way the camera expects it (since it's performing the format).

It may not have anything to do with the file system. For example, it may not be making a good enough connection (and removing and reinserting it would probably help with that part, especially if the pins or contacts in the card are a bit oxidized from not being broken in well yet.

But, I'd see if formatting it using the camera's menu choice for format solves it before making any assumptions.

I formatted it with nothing on it and it still did the same thing. I've formatted it again and we'll see what happens when I use it tonight. Thanks.

Justa couple more words:

Whenever you buy a new card the first thing is formating it!

Format the card after a couple of thousend pictures!

Formating is always gives a power to your card.
