well I have two 128mb CF cards both generic! and not one problem, it does depend how you treat them, just keep them in a case and they'll be good! to be honest if you get generic its cheap enough to just buy another one if one, on the rear occasion, does break.

For customer service reasons, I would go witht he Lexar. I haven't had to contact them, but others here have had good success dealing with them. The flip side of the coin is SanDisk, which was difficult to contact and not responsive when they were finally reached.

Also, what camera are you buying for? Most consumer grade cameras won't benefit from a card faster than about 12x or 16x. They just won't write fast enough to use the extra speed.

Writes speeds of cameras are not something which are published (I wish they were!) But they are also card (make and model) specific. Check out this link to learn more:

http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/mul...e.asp?cid=6007

The reviews there are for high end cameras (the guy is a photo journalist) but it will give you an idea of how it differs. Also, it has good info about CF in general.
