Default Info on card speeds

I've read several long (too long) articles on the speeds of the various compact flash cards.

I have a Nikon D100 and am using an IBM 1 gig Microdrive. Assuming that I am not concerned about the transfer rate from the card to the computer is any one flash card faster than any other ? Is the write speed of the image onto the card in the camera dependant upon the camera ??

Yes, one flash card (x24) is faster than another (X12) for example, but you got to be in the raw mode to notice this. In Jpeg the camera's internal buffer will parse everything out so you would be able to tell the difference unless you're shooting at high frame rate. The write speed is camera dependent and always is slower than the advertised read speed!

BTW your microdrive is already the fastest!
