Default HELP: dropped camera in the ocean

Help please. Dropped hp photosmart 320 with sandisk SD card 64mb in small amount of salt water. Quickly pulled out disk and batteries, dried everything off and left it all to air dry. Camera is working. Disk seemed to be working at first and camera indicated that photos were stored on disk. Now message says disk needs formatting. I'd like to try a recovery program/service but don't know how/where to access one, or what exactly I'd be looking for. Two people suggested a distilled water bath which didn't make any difference. Are my vacation photos gone forever? Note: I'm no tech wiz - please keep replies simple! Thanks.
