Default Olympus xD card suddenly "Write-Protected"

Help! I was loading my ski trip pictures into my Windows XP Pro laptop, when, after renaming the folder, I lost all the photos. In addition, when I put the memory card back in the Stylus 400, the error screen "Write-Protected" came up, and I can do nothing with this card anymore. Efforts to try and figure out a way on my computer to eliminate the write protection come up empty. I used a different xD card, took a picture, and it loaded up fine in both the camera and my laptop, so there is definitely something going on with this card. Any ideas?????

WinXP default formats over 32MB flash media FAT32. Select FAT16 (default for flash media eg.CF,SD) when formatting with WinXP. Please keep us updated.
PNY Compact Flash FAQ:
9) I run Windows XP, does it matter if I format my CF card in FAT 12, 16 or 32 ?

By default, Windows XP will format any CompactFlash card having a capacity greater than 32MB with the FAT32 format. Most digital cameras use the FAT (FAT16 & FAT12) format and can not operate with a FAT32 formatted card. Either format your CompactFlash card in your camera or select FAT file system to format your CompactFlash card with a Windows XP PC.
