Default Compact Flash & Transfer to Computer

I'm about to buy a Canon A80 as my first digital camera and am trying to figure out the various accessories. I've read about how the faster compact flash cards (e.g the Lexar 40X or the Sandisk Ultra II cards) would be wasted on the A80 because it doesn't support such fast write speeds.

However, I haven't been able to figure out much about read speeds. I'm thinking of getting the Lexar Firewire Card Reader to transfer photos to my computer, as that should be much faster than USB, and I don't have USB2.

With a Firewire card reader, will there be an advantage to one of the faster compact flash cards or do the more generic cards have a fast enough read speed that it doesn't really matter?

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Peter

If using an old USB 1.1 card reader - NO.

If using a USB 2.0 or FireWire reader - YES - big difference !
