Default PNY CF Reader and Windows XP...

I just got the Canon S200 with a CF card a couple days ago. Today I bought a PNY USB single CF card reader. The question I have is why the "safely remove hardware" icon comes up all the time in the taskbar. Should I pay attention to this before removing the CF card and disable the card reader device before removing it from the slot? Will not doing this corrupt the card/data? If the process is not req'd, how can I remove that remove hardware icon? thanks

its there to try to prevent you from pulling the card during a read/write. win2k and below did not auto disable the read/write cache for the device. it then asks you to "software" disconnect the reader from the system before card removal. it's there more as a safety item to prevent loss of data. on win xp that doesn't even show up. as a point of safety i would follow the procedure
