Default Update on muvo2 - Soldered or not?

Hi all

What is the status on the muvo2-trick - is it soldered or not? Is it a rumor from people trying to sell there own stocks at ebay.

Does anyone know if it is "safe" to buy a new Muvo 2 now as it "used to be".

No It's not! (ditto with the iPod Mini). Look at the specs I posted back here: http://www.stevesforums.com/phpBB2/v...=20837&start=0

1. The Microdrives are rated for -40 to 70C only!
2. Any solder in the reflow oven would have damaged the drives
3. Soldered by hand would have added another costly and slow (as well as unnecessary) step to the manufacturing process
4. At final test if a drive is found defective how can Creative/Apple replace the device?
5. What about warranty repair or premature field return?

Their business is to sell MP3 players, the more the better... What is it to the manufacturers that someone throws the product away or recycle them on Ebay (if not free advertising) as long as they already get paid for?

Same with Hitachi, theses microdrives prices are pre-negotiated with Creative/Apple. They make more money by selling high-volume consumer product with shipments in the millions rather than onez and twozies to a particular niche with the additional cost of retail SKU packaging/warranty or distribution/theft/inventory management... 8)

Nope, it is not soldered. Just received my muvo2, took it apart - and vola, there it is, working perfect in my 300D.

Highly recommandable.
