Default What Media Readers work with XP?

I am trying to read smart media from my daughter's FinePix1400. I borrowed her sanDisk reader and plugged in my USB. Nothing. Is there a trick I should know about WinXP and readers? Come to think- my CF has been irratic when I try to drag pictures to my ongoing CD photo album. SanDisk site gave me the news my reader not supported for XP- might work (but didn't) after downloading their drivers. Help- I am not usually this befuddled and it is getting to me
Thanks for any insights- I'll be buying a multi format reader- and suggestions?

That's a great price on a SmartMedia card reader that Gary suggested! If you need compatibility with other formats, you might try a Kodak card reader, which is readily available at Wal-Mart and other retail outlets for about $35. It will read CF, SM, SD, MMC formats, and it works great with XP. I have one and can heartily recommend it.

I've got a Dazzle 6-in-1 and it works fine on both Win2K (requires drivers to be installed which was a nightmare) and XP Pro (no extra drivers required).

My suggustion on an inexpensive reader/writer is that cards of 8 gig size are aready being planned and USB 2.0 is about 40X faster than 1.1.

Had trouble with Addonics 6 in 1, but Lexar worked fine with XP.
Waiting for solution from Addonics.
