Default Hitachi 4gb Microdrive

I just installed a 4gb Hitachi Microdrive on my Sony 828. On the 8mp setting the Lcd indicator says 999 pictures available but I think the capacity is actually more since I took about 30 pictures and it never changed. On my 256mb card I could shoot about 80 pictures. Doing the math indicates that I should have 16 times the capacity on the 4gb microdrive. Is this accurate? Does anyone know the true capacity of the 4gb microdrive at 8 mp? Thanks for the help!

Switch the camera to raw to get the exact count... On Jpeg it's always an estimate as each picture size varies with the content and its compression. ie the jpeg total count is almost never the same regardless of what the camera's counter tell you (it'll get adjusted as the pictures are taken). Right now it's showing more than the camera can count (over 1.3k worth of pictures)!
