Default Problems with Viking 256 and CP4500?

Anyone else have problems with the Viking 256MB CF card and the Nikon CoolPix 4500?

First thing I did with the card was pop it into the camera and try to format it. I got a 'This card cannot be used' error message in red after a long pause (no startup sounds). When I tried to format it I found that the choice was not selectable in the Setup Menu. I then tried to format the card via my card reader and computer and that worked fine, but the 4500 still gave me the error. I then copied all the data from a working card in attempts to fool the camera into recogizing the card, but no go.

The numbers on the card are:

THNCF256MMA (T00AB) JAPAN 0230KK
(on the side)

and there's a sticker on the back with
910TS256CF
next to the serial number

Default Contacted Viking...

The tech said that he's gotten reports that this card is slow in the 4500, but nothing about it not working. I've seen several references to problems with this card in the 4500 so I'm thinking of returning it and getting a Ridata or something.

Bummer!
