I'm thinking about purchasing a Nikon D70, which takes CF type 2 cards.
My old camera has type 1 cards.

My question: Will the D70 recognize the type 1 CF cards and can it use them?

Thanks.

Yes, type 1 is the thinner card and all CF cameras will take theses. Type 2 is the thicker card associated with microdrives and hybrid flash modules...

Yes, the D70 will work with either CF1 or CF2 memory cards.

Size doesn't matter in this case regarding speed...you can have slow or fast cards in either thickness (although the microdrive will be slower in terms that it's a mechanical device).

Again the only difference is thickness.
