Being new to this I am a little lost in trying to figure out what is the major difference between Microdrive & regular Compact Flash card.
I can get a 2GB microdrive CF for alot cheaper then regular CF card.
I have a Canon Rebel EOS camera.

Thank you

I'll pay the $20 extra and get the above 2G Sandisk Ultra II instead... (it's like an insurance premium )

My vote goes to the SanDisk as well. Should be faster, too.

CF over Microdrive anytime...

This is why:

Microdrives have moving parts.

Therefore, they are more susceptible to damage or failure.

Please note that many here on the forum speak very enthusiastically, even

lovingly ? of their Microdrives.

Me...I like to remove as many variables between the shutter and print of photo so would never invest in a Microdrive. I bought a couple fo Sandisk 512 Ultra II CF flash a while back for $75 each.

Price is plummeting on CF. You could probably find them for $55 or so now.

Also, I would go withfour 512 v. 2 G Compact Flash because that way you have three "backups" 512 x3 versus no backup with CF 2g.

To each his own

I have an IBM 1GBmicrodrive and the Sandisk 1GB Ultra II CF. The Ultra is much faster than the microdrive. I would only buy CF cards and not the microdrive but the microdrive was a gift. It does provide me with a backup.

:idea:Hi I just took out my 2G Hitachi microdrive out of my new Rebel and put in a 512 scandisk. I had a problem that the camera won't turn on after auto power off. Now with the 512 card it seem to go ok. I thought it was a battry problem. Buy a new battery gave me the same problem.
