Usually the larger CF cards (512MB-1G) are type II (but not all) since they use multi-chips module inside to achieve the higher density (or cost by using smaller memory dies):http://www.simpletech.com/upgrade_na...eType%5B%5D%3D

the only differences between CF1 and CF2 are the thickness of the cards. the point of the thickness is to attempt to cram more memory into the space provided in the case of a microdrive they cram an entire 1gb spinning HD in it. thats it.

in order for your camera to use a CF2 card it must say type 1 and or type 2 CF card slot. a type 2 slot will take type 1 cards but a type 1 only slot will not take type 2

a type 1 card is 3.3mm thick a type 2 card is 5mm thick. it is strictly a form factor difference.
