was wondering if you can use SD cards in any camera, and switch between them easily. i have just bought a 512mb SD card for my soon to be canon ixus 40 (sd300) but have an old 1.3mp camera which can also accept SD cards. have heard people talking about formatting memory cards in the camera etc.

Basically i want to know if i can put my new card in the old camera and use it before i get the new ixus, or could that make the cardit less effective, or risk corrupting the card etc?? i have no idea!

thanks in advance

It shouldn't hurt anything. As far as formatting the card, I usually do this viathe Camera menus (not with witha PC), prior to every use.Formatting is just asfast as deleting photos anyway, and insures that I always start out with a fresh FAT (File Allocation Table).
