I have two Microtech 512 cards that I use for my OlympusE20. I use a USB Microtech reader. Twice now I have had corrupt card errors. Tried a couple different things to recover, but in the end only lost more data. The thing that finally worked was in the XP operating systems tools, a kin to scandisk, I think it is analyze disk... (under defragmenter). The last time it happened I recovered all but one image.
I have since reformatted the card, but don't want to use it because I don't want to risk NOT being able to recover the files. Why did it happen in the first place? Will the reformatted card be more stable? Would any of you feel comfortable using a previously currupted card? Am I being silly? I will return them for a more stable (Lexar? Don't they have their own recovery software?) manufacturer... :roll:

valerien

I have XP Pro and I don't see anything like what you describe in:
Programs->Accessories->System Tools

Could you give exact directions about where to find it in the start menu or what the executable name is? I haven't had troubles but I'd like to be perpaired when I do.

I believe it is under defragmenter and is called anaylze disk. I didn't realize that it had done anything until I found a whole bunch of files that had been renamed file00*. I also had to add the extension back to the filename in order to open them. I hope this doesn't happen to either of us, very anxiety producing. And you may still ulitmately lose files....
