Default Should I get the recommended card or any Smart card?

I have an Olympus C3030. I got the appropriate 64mb card along with it and I plan on getting a 128mb card.

A co-worker of mine is buying a Minolta and asked me what the difference was between all these cards.

From what I know, I told him that I "think the recommended card will work more efficiently than an off-brand card"

However, knowing only enough about this stuff to be dangerous, could someone please elaborate on the differences? AM I wasting money paying for the Olympus card for my camera or is their a bonafide reason to stick with it?

Thanks!!

Yes there is a difference between Olympus and other brands of smart media. The Olympus cards support a panaroma function on your camera that the other smart media cards will not. You can follow this link: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...hdepa=0&page=2. I use this Dane electronics 128mb card and it works very well. The card cost 47 dollars. The cost of the Olympus brand will run about $70. You can locate Olympus cards at www.pricescan.com.
