I'm looking for a 512 card for my Sony DSC-W1 and I found these two which look good.
Is it worth the extra for the Ultra II?
Thanks.

The answer is no, and according to the specs you quoted the first one is faster.

Thanks. These descriptions are straight off newegg. Any idea why they priced the second one higher?
Aside from the "Ultra II" label that is?

Not sure if the first one is faster. It says 15Mbs (15 Meg bits/sec). Ultra II says min 9MBs (9 Meg Bytes/sec or 72 Meg bits/sec). We need to wtch our bits and Bytes when we compare. Bytes = B, bits = b.

being tha the ultra II is one of the better cards around and one of the fastest around i reread the stats.

SDMSV-512-A10

High-speed data transfer rate of 15Mbps for DVD-quality video in real time

1 Bit=0.125 or 1/8 of a Byte

the operative wording ther is Mbps or megabit/s not megabytes/s or MB/s

15Mb or 15000000 bits/s= roughly 1.875MB/s or 187500 Bytes/s SLOW

SDMSPH-512-901

The SanDisk Ultra II Memory Stick PRO cards have a minimum sustained write speed of 9 megabytes (MB) per second and a read speed of 10MB per second

this is 9-10 MB/s MUCH FASTER

BIG DIFFERENCE THERE

to lay person the upper looks faster because of the larger number but is actually much slower because of the size of the data stream

there is no misinformation at the site its just 95% of people do not no how to interpert it or as we all did in the beginning missed what it actually said.

this is how they blow smoke up you pants or other portion of the anatomy.

all info taken from the sandisk website as is the info at newegg.

The other thing you need to determine is how fast the camera can feed the memory card. Depending on the camera's speed, you may or may not actually notice any real-use performance difference.

So it's the speed. That makes sense I guess but not enough for me to justify the price.
I study computers, I should have noticed that myself!
