I just bought a Coolpix 5200 and now am going to order a 256mb secure digital card. Now I have found a Kingston 256 for $30 with a $15 MIR. If the Ultra cards make a huge difference in write speeds I would rather spend the extra money and get that as it would be best in the long run.

What is your opinion on the Utlra cards?

Thanks,
Frank

it partly depends on the camera's write speed - how fast the image data is transferred from the camera's processor to the memory card. most digicams don't write much above 2MB/sec, so a 'standard' SD card should be okay. but "ultra" or high speed cards are useful if your camera has a fast 'burst mode' option, or can shoot continuously. you can get a Kingmax Platinum hi-speed card (66x)from Newegg forjust $24 (no rebate required), or you can double the memory capacity andget a hi-speed 512MB for just under $40. at those prices, there's no reason not to get the faster card, andthe bigger one will store twice as many images which could be handy.

Netman;
I have the 512 kingmax hi speed card squirl033 talked about, and it is nice. You can get it cheap and quickly from newegg.com Be advised, you can not write-protect the Kingmax SD cards, if that is important to you.
