The camera has to be turned on! Have you setup the Nikon view software ? You have to do that.

I'm not sure - but you also have to set up the cameras menu and choose between Transfer or PTP.

Try that first.

Default ARGH

I know what you mean...but i am using XP as my OS. But if I use win98 I have no probs. I am thinking of having 2 OS on one machine and hopefully that will work. Right now I am downloading it to my bro's pc, burning the pics and going back to my pc etc. WHAT A PAIN.

I have tried reinstalling the drivers but it doesnt work.
I have tried reinstalling XP and still it doesnt work.
I have asked Nikon and they have not responded....
Oh well....

I tried using my card reader and my nikon downloading thingy and no joy at all...
sigh

I hope someone can seriously help me and you with this prob!

I use a "PNY" compact flash card reader sold at Staples for $20 on windows XP and it works fine, I have not tried to get the photos from the camera directly.
Hope this helps.

Be sure you have the latest firmware in the camera and the latest NikonView updated software. You'll find them here:

Try go into My Computer, choose the place where you will find your USB connection - then rightclick and choose "search for harware" (something like that - dont know the exact words - got a danish windows version)

It sounds to me, that you must "rediscover" your hardware - here the USB!
Worth a try!

AHA finally!
I think I got the bug fixed. Have both XP and Win 98 on one computer and it works fine. Been downloading heaps of pics and getting them organized. Let's just hope it stays that way.

Thanks guys for your advice!
