When a BBC department recently started to look at what was important when choosing what digital SLRs to buy for staffthe most important factor they listed was the memory format. It was decided that a product roadmap for each of the majormemory devices was required. After all, there could be nothing worse than finding in two years time thatthe memory devicewon't be available when you want to buy bigger capacity chips. Such a situation would makethecameraeffectively obsolete.

What do people know about the future of the various memory devices? I want to buy an SLR but want it to have a long lifespan that wont be cut short by a memory device suddenly becoming obsolete.
