I read the 5050 can handle up to a 2GB card. So I bought a 1GB xD card. When th camera tried to format I consistantly got a CARD ERROR. I returned the card and they said the 5050 isn't compatible with 1GB xDs.

Is this true?

Is there a downloadable upgrade?

Would a 512MB work as an alternative?

to solve you problem is to invest in a 2GB CF card and all your problems are solved. they work and very well too.

investing in xD is a losing proposition. there are only 2 manufacturers that support the product form factor.

with CF you have more options then any other card. you have the capability to actually use SD andxD in a CF slot with adapters. you also have still to this date the lowest cost per MB of any of the form factors.

Before you posted a response I have come to that same conclusion. Which leads to my next question:

I'm looking to get a 2GB CF card. I saw Sandisk has a 2GB type 1 as well as the Ultra II for roughly $30 more. Does the c-5050 write fast enough to get the Ultra II? Or is that card faster than the camera in which case I will get the CF type 1 2GB?

Thanks.

no it doesn't write that fast. take a look at the kingston elite pro cards

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...ductCode=82239

the standard sandisk cards carry a limited warranty vs a lifetime one on the ulta series and the kingston elite pro series. this may or may not be important to you but to me after an investment like this it is.

the kingston is a great buy for a good product

Thanks for that advice. However, I am limited to what they have at BnH photo, since that is where I bought the xD card and I now have store credit from the return. They don't have the Kingston CF card.
