Default corrupt CF...

I just purchased a Canon PowerShot A10 a few weeks ago and it came with a (small) 8MB CF card. The other day I had a problem when dowloading images from the camera... the software indicated that one image file could not be found. I retried a few times and the software crashed (no errors). Since then the camera reports zero images on the CF card but .5MB of storage are unavailable and the image capacity of the card has decreased by 2 in 640x480/SuperFine.

Canon states that the card may have become corrupt. Is this likely to happen with CF technology or should it be generally more reliable? The camera/CF card has not be abused at all... in fact, the CF card has never been removed from the camera since it was purchsed. I am admittedly concerned as to the reliability of CF technology at this point...

Kick, I can understand your concern with the CF card be a stable technology for you camera storage. I just recently had a similar problem with mine. The only thing that I can tell you is that I have taken around 5000 pictures with my camera and a CF card and only had one error. Out of the 45 images that where on the card that day I recovered 40 of them. With PhotoRescue. I think in general it is pretty stable.

Canon has replied to me on the situation and claims that it is normal for the capacity of the CF card to decrease once formatted? The only problem is that capacity had decreased *before* the CF card was formatted! I'm not sure I believe Canon's explaination at the moment...
