Just purchased an S2 IS. Is high speed SD memory recommended or is it over kill? What are your experiences with normal vs. high speed memory? Any chips that do not work well?

Very high speed memory is probably overkill. I bought two SanDisk Extreme III 1 gig cards, and they work great, but the less expensive Extreme II cards seem to work just as well. I can't see any difference with the S2. I'll still buy the fastest cards I can find though, as memory cards tend to outlast the devices I bought them for, and I expect that the S3 (or whatever future camera I buy) will be able to use that extra speed and then some.

For what it's worth, one of my SanDisk Extreme III cards went through an entire washer and dryer cycle in the pocket of a pair of pants, and still works like new. Other SD cards might well take the same abuse without failing, but I can vouch for the SanDisk Ex III cards in the durability area from experience.

Here are a few basic comments about selecting memory card speeds.
