Default MacOSX and USB SmartMedia Reader

Just switched to MacOSX and I don't know what to expect regarding how my USB SmartMedia reader should work.

I have the drivers installed and the reader shows up in Apple System Profiler.

Unlike MacOS9, the SmartMedia card does not automount as a volume with MacOSX.

It's a Memorex reader, and I can find no MacOSX software designed to access it.

I know this sort of thing works -- I just can't find the trick of it.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

Default OS X and readers

Actually, if there is an OS X driver, a card mounts on the desktop just as before. The problem is several manufacturers are slow to create the drivers. Before you spend too much time on it, get yourself a new USB reader, one which advertises OS X compatibility. They're not that expensive if your time is worth something. I wasted too much time trying to get my Lexar to work.

I had a ZIO reader and they were slow to write drivers for OS X,so I bought a Smartdisk reader for my SM cards.I bought a C-5050 so now I need a card reader for CF and XD.Rather than buy another card reader I just use the USB to connect the camera to OS X.I didn't need anything. Its just as fast as a reader.
If you really need a card reader make sure it says its compatible with MSD (Mass Storags Devices) and you won't need any drivers.

Almost forgot! If you use 10.2.3 you shouldn't need any drivers, and 10.2.4 will probably be out next week or maybe even sooner.
