looking around on ebay i have found an SD to Compact Flash adapter.

Have you ever tried this product ?
I know SD is slower than CF, but if i use an ultra II sd card with this adapter can i obtain same performance of standard speed CF ?

I have 2Gb SD card, and with this adapter i should use it with my nikon 8800.

Not strictly true.

A fast SD card will perform faster than a slow CF card. And a slow SD card will perform slower than a fast CF card.

Your Sandisk Ultra II SD card has a minimum sustained write speed of 9mb/sec. Which is 60x speed !! And a read speed of 10mb/sec or 66x !!

So even accounting for the addition of an adapter in line, I shouldn't worry about performance at all.

Sorry, I don't have figures for any adater, but cannot imagine one creating such a bottleneck as to render it pointless having a high speed card, or causing any performance drop of any note.

Having said that, it could depend on the manufacturer. I understand all manner of clone/non-branded items are available, so try to check the specs.
