NHL, thanks
I was thinking of just “cutting” a part of the metal shield ( with a mini tool) , not removing the whole shield .
That way , everything still stcked in place
( also, my model doesn't have any "retracting connector sleeve on the pins" , cheap model I guess??)

Further to my previous post, I'm curious and not understanding this metal sleeve issue.

My adaptor has a pair of guide rail slots on either side of the adaptor, which centre the Microdrive or CF card as it is pushed in - what are you guys talking about?

Voxmagna, the rails are ok, but it's the metal part of the cover that prevent the type 2 CF to be fully inserted .

Thanks, my Dane-elec adaptor has the 2 side rails and when I plug in my 1Gb Microdrive, the combined profile sizewise is the same as a pcmcia card with no metal bits or covers in the way. You guys must have something different and I've got a clone of the real thing then?

Now I look at your pic for the Viking, my adaptor has rails twice as long, and where the Viking has the metal sleeve, my adaptor has the 50 pin plastic socket exposed. So I think mine is the biz for the job!

I've looked here on their website and their photo looks like your Viking so they may have a Microdrive version not shown, which I've got. Those with a need might follow it up.

Sandisk adapter with the top metal shield removed for the microdrive clearance vs the IBM retracting sleeve to protect the connector pins. There's no guide on the side rails of the Sandisk, the top and bottom metal shields keep the card from wobling and centered:

How about $209.99 also free shipping!   http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail.asp?DPNo=103762

... Also 1G flash for $199 http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail.asp?DPNo=133437

Apparently there's no bottom for mass storage which is very good for all photographers alike... (as long as its CF) 8)

hey! recheck those prices it seems they have changed in the upward manner. the md is now $224 and the no name cf is now $250. don't forget that ecost throws in a handling charge which usually makes up for the "free shipping".

nhl it isn't you it's ecost. they change prices like airlines change airfares.

There's a trick for the $199 price too!
