i've noticed that it takes a lot longer for files from my Canon CF card to download and appear as thumbnails in Irfanview than it does for the same process with SD memory from my Panasonic FZ20. Is the CF format the culprit? the SD card is 66x, and the CF card is 140x, so card speed isn't the issue. or is it simply the card reader itself? i have separate readers for CF and SD, both are simple plug-in USB readers.

Now hopefully those both are real USB2 readers in USB2 port.

It's that reader which limits speed, there's considerable variation between them.

That CF card would be beside Sandisk Extreme III

I think PCMCIA adapter would be best because it doesn't do anything else than just connects pins together. (interface of CF card is directly compatible with PCMCIA ATA)

thanks, E.T. actually, the CF card is TwinMOS. much cheaper than Sandisk...
