I've been using a firewire compactflash reader for over two years (never had problems of contact wear or bent pins), and I cringe when I am forced to download images through the USB port of my camera (when there's no firewire). 240MB of studio images takes long enough, if I had to transfer 1GB+ worth of wedding shots everytime I'd go mad :P

the usb cable for my 7Hi is still in the sealed plastic bag in the box for the camera. in the 4 generations of digicams i have owned i have never used the direct camera connect.

i think it come from my psychological need to remove and replace film in my camera.

but really with a usb2 connect/pcmcia connect on the road and a firewire connect home, draining a card of images (especially 512MB to 1GB ones) is so much quicker then draining the batteries on my camera. or even having to deal with a ac adapter (just another wall wart) which won't plug into too many cars on the road (except for a toyota matrix).
