Default Lexar Jumshot CF reader

Is a Lexar Jumshot reader a wise purchase?
The Jumpshot reader only works for USB enabled CF memory modules, and only Lexar makes them. What does this mean? Your Jumpshot reader will not work with your other CF memory modules. Buying one is not prudent if you expect to read those other memory modules.

Lexar have produced a card range where each card has its own usb electronics in the card. To connect to a pc you basically need something to hold the card and a connector with lead to extend its built in usb to the pc. So when they say it's a 'reader' its just a box and some wires. So if you plugged in another standard card, you wouldn't expect their gizmo to do anything!

I can't see obvious advantages with their system. If you mix and buy other cards you'd still need a reader. Perhaps they're hoping that once you buy their gizmo and realise you'd need a reader for other makes, you'll keep buying Lexar. These are the same idea as usb flash memory sticks - but in card format. Now if each memory card came with a wireless sender (at current card prices) - that would be really something!

I couldn't care less for the jumpshot reader. I used it once after purchasing my second Lexar CF (just to be able to use their ImageRescue program, which by the way doesn't work with their firewire reader, only jumpshot). It's sitting in my drawer chatting with the dust bunnies  The jumpshot cable doesn't work with other brands of CF, so I can't use it to access my Kingston CF, only my Lexars.
