![]() What I need is a backpack that can take the following gear and can be used as a travel and hiking daypack… Canon 30D 100-400 lens 17-85 lens 10-22 lens 50 lens Filters/batteries etc I also need as much space as possible for waterproof jacket, extra clothing, food, binoculars, maps etc. I would like the bag to have a good comfortable harness, and possibly be waterproof/resistant. Any suggestions? I've looked at the Lowepro Orion Trekker which is too small for my needs. |

That Lowepro Orion is definitely small one.
Tamrac Expedition 7 or 8 http://www.tamrac.com/welcome2.htm Also Lowepro's bigger models like Pro Trekker/Super Trekker. (these appeat to be really expensive) http://www.lowepro.com/Products/Backpacks/allWeather/ Here's some reviews http://www.cambags.com/bag_lists/bac...ist_frames.htm As curiosity Lowepro DryZones are fully water tight, including dropping them to water. (most are rain proof) |

Thanks for that. I like the look of those bags. How much other gear does the front pocket ofthese bags hold?

The first backpack I bought was to hold everything I have, but lugging it around is a pain. If I get another bp, it will be smaller, and I will take what I think I will need for that day. Just a thought ~ Ron

In general, I don't like backpacks for camera. You have to take them off, and set them on the ground to change lens. I go hiking a lot and I went with a belt back. I do have smaller lens (18-55mm and 70-300). I went with Lowepro Orion beltback. I then use a regular backpack for food, jacket and water, or use my camelpack. Your needs may vary depending on the type of backpacking you do, but this is just a suggestion.
