I need to transport some equipment for a flight to Vegas next month and was looking at options regarding baggage. Flying continental which has an overall 51" carry on limit.
The ideal bag IMO is the Lowepro Pro Roller 2. But it exceed the 51" Continental limit by about and inch and a half. I have three questions: 1) Anyone have the bag & fly with it as a carry on? Have you gotten away with the slight overage? Particularly experience with continental would be helpful. Also any feedback from experiences with any carry ons from anyone would be helpful. 2) Any other bag suggestions that come close to maxing the 51" limit? (Roller style preferred) 3) Anyone with the Lowepro Pro Roller 1 version who can give me a good comparison between the two. Is it worth pushing the limits or should I just go with version 1? Thanks! I personally would not take a chance like that. Go with the bag you know iswithin the limits.

Ya I felt the same way realizing the implication of being denied passage. However I received some feedback on another message board form someone who had experience with both proroller bags, and has never had trouble getting the proroller 2 on board. Then I tried to fit what i wanted to carry into the smaller case & it wouldn't work, so i took the larger.
Happy to report, no issues. It fit overhead just fine & it wasn't even questioned. For a single inch overage I feel comfortable to stick with it. Just wanted others to know, it's a GREAT case too! |

Have to be very careful with large carryon bags, especially those that are near the size limit.
Most should fit into the overhead bins of the newer jumbo aircraft, but if you get a flight with an older or smaller plane, forget it. The overhead bins will NOT accomodate the larger carryon bags. Check your flights and the equipment they have assigned to the route. Do you want to hand your multi thousand dollar bag of eguipment over to the ground crew for storage in the belly of the beast?
