Hi
I recently got D90 and have 2 lenses , 18-105 mm kit lens and 70-300mm lens. I am planning to buy some UV filters to protect my lens from dust and scratches. Which one do you recommend ? I did some research and found Quantaray and Hoya Multicoated filters. How is Quantaray ? (Nikon is too expensive ) By the way, do you recommend to use UV filter on 70-300mm lens ? Will it bring any negative effect in quality of the pictures ? Your suggestion will be highly appreciated. Thanks... |

Cheap filters can degrade image quality. Don't skimp.
Also, a filter on the 18-105 can cause vignetting, and the 18-105 vignettes just fine all by itself. So if you put a filter on it, get a thin filter.

A very nice UV filter comparison test can be found here:

Tiffen haze-1 is my pick, been using them for years coming off a long film background. Where UV is more of a concern. Here is a test of couple of UV filters to confuse the matter even more weather you want a uv filter on you lens, the first part of the article makes a valid point about digital sensor. http://photo.net/equipment/filters/

If you want to spend the extra money, the new tiffen HT line is very good and multicoated.
