How to improvise an ND filter for my panasonic fx9?
-
Hello. I would like to take long exposure shots (a second, or so) in normal light, with my Panasonic FX9. Unfortunately, it doesn't have any manual exposure modes.
I don't think an ND filter is available to fit this camera... I've tried holding sunglasses infront of the lens but I just get reflections.
The scenarios I have in mind are shooting waterfalls or the sea, with an exposure of 1/2 to a second -for blurry water. Sometimes my 20D is just too big to take out with me!
Thanks.

Have you tried holding an actual ND filter up to your lens? To minimize reflections you could hold a piece of cardboard, a hat or other suitable object to shade the front of the camera from direct light.
If the ND filter you have isn't strong enough, try stacking it with a polarizer.

Hello there,
Thanks for the suggestion - I don't own an ND filter at the moment, but I will report back on how it goes after I have purchased one.
All the best.

Unless you plan to use the ND filter a lot, you can get ND gels at relatively low cost.
