Hi Bill,
I opted for this one:
Manfrotto 334B (Canadian code) / Bogen 3245 (US code)
at:

http://www.manfrotto.com/
Quote:
AUTOMATIC MONOPOD / Cat. No: 3245
The automatic, 3 section, monopod provides immediate single handed final height adjustment.
Squeeze the trigger handle and the top section can be raised or lowered, release, and it locks in position. The lower two sections have a twist lock action for additional height adjustment.
The top plate has a dual 1/4" - 3/8" camera fixing screw.
Maximum Height with extended center column 65.4 inches / 1.66 m
Closed Length 26.8 inches / .68 m
Maximum Load Capacity 17.7 lbs / 8 kg
Weight 1.1 lbs / .49 kg
May be it’s a bit too much for your cam, but if you use it also for a SLR or with a handle mount flash like me, it’s very robust/rigid.
What I love is the squeeze quick release feature, your finger never have to leave the shutter.
What you have to add is a small tilt head for portrait/landscape.
NOTE: In the quoted text, there is an error (in both website) : There is only 1 lower twist lock section , not 2. ( total = 2 moveable sections, 1 squeeze action, one twist lock)
This monopod may cover your battery compartment, depending your choice of an additional tilt head. The basic seat (plate) is a 2 inch diameter circular surface.
Also, the 3/8 thread screw is spring loaded , push that down and you have the 1/4 thread, never need to look after the 1/4 - 3/8 adapter
