Skylight 1A as lens protector?
I always use a UV filter for protecting my lenses. I picked a Skylight 1A (52mm) from a garage sale for $1. Can I use it as a lens protector for my Canon 50mm f.18 II?

the skylight 1a is fine for protection.
i personally don't believe in using filters for protection unless its really harsh conditions, due to image degradation, but i know many feel more comfortable with it. |
Like all filter the skylight will add a tint to you shot. A UV generally add a yellow tint, a skylight will add a hint of pink or purple. If you want to use a filter to protect your lens, a clear filter is best. If you want to protect and add a warming effect a haze 1 is a good option.
I do not use filter to protect my ef 50mm f1.8 either. Do not want ghosting of flares. I have a lens hood to reduce flares. |
Thanks! I found this info online:http://www.cs.mtu.edu/~shene/DigiCam...filter-UV.html
