Sony A6400, 3 lenses. Which (if any) Cokin P-series adapter ring will work?
Hey gang,
I'm looking to buy a Cokin P-series adapter ring and filter holder to add some of their Nuance filters to my kit, but, being a total newb, I'm not even sure if these things have the ability to attach to my 3 specific lenses. I was wondering if someone could confirm that the Cokin P-series adapter ring will work with any/all of the 3 lenses I own, namely:Sony SEL-35F18 (Sony E 35mm F1.8 OSS) 49 Sony SEL-P1650 (Sony E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS) 40.5 Sony SEL-55210 (Sony E 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 OSS) 49 If I understand correctly, it appears based on a Wikipedia entry I found that the filter sizes for the SEL-35F18 and SEL-55210 is 49mm, while the SEL-P1650 is 40.5mm. But I might be totally misunderstanding what this chart is telling me (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...E-mount_lenses). Can someone help me confirm any of this will work with my lenses? Thanks, Jeff in Houston |
G'day Jeff
Not one of my areas of knowledge - maybe TCav can assist ... Otherwise talk to someone at B&H or Adorama (or wherever you are planning to purchase from) and get them to confirm your queries. ps- if you were aiming for an evilBay cheapie purchase, I would reconsider due to the known qty of fakes for sale there Hope this helps Phil |
Sony SEL-35F18 (Sony E 35mm F1.8 OSS) filter size is 49 mm.
Sony SEL-P1650 (Sony E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS) ilter size is 40.5 mm. Sony SEL-55210 (Sony E 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 OSS) filter size is 49 mm. (I changed the links from Wikipedia to Sony's website.) (I rely on Wikipedia quite a lot myself, but sometimes it's just better to get info straight from the horse's mouth.) |
Since the Sony SEL-P1650 retracts during power down or sleep, you may have trouble with the filter carrier on that lens.

Thanks, all. Since I'm just getting into filters, I reached out to the guy (www.michaelthemaven.com) who I bought the A6400 crash course from and he suggested a much more inexpensive starter set of filters available on Amazon. I also located a 40.5 -> 49mm step up ring that I could use with the filter kit he recommended. For reference, here's what he recommended:

Photographic filters are one of the few things where price is an excellent indication of quality.
What do you have in mind for filters anyway? For the most part, filters are unnecessary, sometimes even detrimental. |
