Quite a few years ago (about 6 or so) I saw a product from an American company that slotted into the back of any 35mm SLR and enabled you to take digital pictures. Resolution was only 640x480 and not sure how many pics it took. Cost around £400.

Does anyone know of an up-to-date equivalent?

My Dad and a few friends have good quality 35mm SLR cameras and not really keen to pay £550-600+ for a dSLR body.

Thanks.

Yes, they were working on it, but I think technology overtook them. As far as I know they are no longer.

The closest thing today would be the digital backs for MF or the Digital Module R for the Leica R8 & R9. Neither are very cheap.

shame  I tought it was a good idea. Too expensive back then, but if they had one today that was at least 5MP and around £100/£150 I think it would be quite popular.

Look in the New Technology forum under Misc forums. It was nothing more than a scam meant to separate investors, aka "suckers", from their money.

Well there is the Leica R digital back, for the Leica SLR cameras.

It's not quite in the price range you were looking for though, but it's exactly the same idea. You can interchange the film and digital backs.

And of course there are all the medium format digital backs.
