For my Minolta srT-202, I cut the neck strap to about 1 foot long, threaded it from the left lug, under the camera to the right lug, so that there's enough slack to put my hand through.

In this way, I can relax my hand, but the camera is always at the ready.

But neck straps now have these wide portions that are supposed to be more comfortable. and the narrow portions that go through the lugs aren't long enough to reach from one lug to the other.

Anyone have any ideas about what I could do?

The long strap easily detaches from the camera allowing you connect the short ends to form a hand strap. Most of their straps will do this.

Thank you both.

I had checked Op/Tech, but didn't know you could just leave out the piece in the middle.

I hadn't heard of Habuka, but their solution looks interesting.

Again, thanks.

I have never had any of my cameras slung round my neck,I make a loop in the strap and slip my hand through it ,works great.

I got mine at a local Fry's Electronics but last time I checked they didn't carry them anymore. Next time I order from BH I'm gonna buy several - a spare for me and a couple to give away. They are great if you are looking for an alternative to a neck strap.

Thank you all for your input.

I just got back from Ritz Camera to buy a teleconverter (in preparation for the Lunar Eclipse), and they had an Op/Tech neckstrap that would do exactly what I needed. I got it, installed it, and it works great.

Again, thanks to everyone.
